Summary
Kreia was an unconventional and highly controversial Force-sensitive who took upon herself to build a new Jedi Order of her vision in freeing the galaxy's sentient beings from being enslaved to the Force. . Kreia's quest indeed led her astray; she sought contrast with the Jedi ways by opening herself up to the dark side of the Force, but she was overwhelmed by the darkness on the Sith world of Malachor V

, where the Mandalorian Wars that Revan waged culminated in the deadly activation of the Mass Shadow Generator superweapon. The echoes of the Malachor tragedy proved overbearing, transforming Kreia into the bitter Sith Lord Darth Traya.
While Revan had reclaimed his Jedi identity, helping to dismantle the Sith Empire of his own creation in the Jedi Civil War before setting for the Unknown Regions in search of the True Sith, Darth Traya consolidated a Sith Order of her own. And yet, she was betrayed once more by her own Sith apprentices, Darth Nihilus

With the two Sith Lords initiating a successful purge of the Jedi Order that reduced the entire galaxy's Jedi to but a handful of individuals, Traya realized that neither the Jedi nor the Sith deserved to win. She believed that both groups stripped its members of their individuality, reducing them to mere dependents of the Force who would ceaselessly wrought war across the stars. As such, she turned back on her Sith persona, and took on her name of Kreia once more.
She then found the Jedi Exile named Meetra Surik

, whom Kreia saw was the opposite of Revan and his mighty power in the Force; the Exile was a void, a wound in the Force, as she had unconsciously severed her connection to it at the Battle of Malachor V, carrying all the deaths and suffering of Malachor with her.
Kreia aided Surik in locating the Jedi Masters Vrook Lamar, Kavar, and Zez-Kai Ell - Force-reliant Jedi who exiled Surik and refused to fight the Sith and other evils because of their fears and dogma. Surik convinced the Masters to reconvene at the Dantooine

Jedi Enclave's ruins, although they condemned the truth that Surik, in letting go of the Force, became master of her own destiny and was able to make her own choices. Frustrated at the Masters' blindness, Kreia revealed her identity as the former Sith Lord Darth Traya and in turn passed judgment on the Jedi, severing their bonds to the Force. As they were themselves too attached to the Force, the Jedi died, passing on from the Living Force to the Cosmic Force. Shortly after, Kreia traveled to the secret Jedi Academy on Telos IV and exposed Jedi Master Atris' fall to the dark side. Atris finally admitted that she herself had fallen to the grasps of the dark side of the Force, accepting that her darkness betrayed herself. The new "Darth Traya," as Kreia referred to Atris, thus did what the other Master could not; she embraced the dark side. However, Atris was then confronted by Meetra Surik. After Surik persuaded Atris to let go of her false Jedi teachings and leave to find her human self once more, the Exile destroyed Darth Nihilus over Telos. With the last echoes of her past laid to rest, the Jedi Exile journeyed to Malachor V, the echo itself, to confront Kreia and face her final test.
On Malachor V, Kreia once more assumed the role of Darth Traya, the Lord of Betrayal - where the false Jedi Atris had chosen to distance herself from the Jedi, Kreia had to be the Traya who, as always, brought about the betrayal of the Jedi and the Sith. Asserting her dominance over Darth Sion, Kreia made preparations for the Exile's final test - the death of the past at the echo itself. After the Jedi Exile made her way through the numerous Sith minions on Malachor, she found Kreia at the Trayus Core. Kreia stated that her goal was to free the galaxy from the Force's influence, for she hated its control of every being's destiny. Kreia told Meetra Surik that she must let go of everything other than herself to achieve her full potential: to be an individual, to live and be herself. Kreia then went on to deliver her ultimatum: the Exile must either kill her, or she would kill the Exile. Thus, the Jedi Exile was forced to betray her master as her master did her, thus severing their ties and letting go of each other. Ultimately, the Exile defeated Kreia in the depths of the Trayus Academy, granting Kreia death per the mentor's will. Before Kreia died, she parted with a final gift - seeing through the fabrics of the Force, she told the Exile of her visions of the galaxy's future.
